A Decade Of Rainbows—Rainbow Lorikeet Tops The tenth Annual Aussie Bird Count

In early November BirdLife Australia, leaders for fowl conversation in Australia, revealed the preliminary results for the Aussie Bird Count.
With greater than 420,000 counted, the colorful Rainbow Lorikeet as quickly as once more comes out on prime, beating the Noisy Miner with almost 220,000 and the long-lasting Australian Magpie with round 154,000 counted.

In complete, over eighty,000 Aussies counted greater than 3.6 million birds through the week submitting over one hundred,000 checklists and observing 658 bird species.

“The enthusiasm with which Australians have taken to the Aussie Bird Count has been excellent,” said BirdLife Australia’s National Public Affairs Manager, Sean Dooley.

Over the past 10 years, the Aussie Bird Count has helped raise the profile of Australia’s fowl life and inspired thousands of people across the country to connect with nature.

“In addition to being good for our psychological well being, chook watching is usually the first step in the direction of nature conservation. We can’t shield something if we don’t know how it's faring within the first place.”

With practically 1 in 6 bird species in Australia vulnerable to extinction from threats corresponding to local weather change, habitat loss, fires, and invasive species,

BirdLife Australia relies on information to tell priorities and insights from monitoring tasks such as the count to help shape our broader Bird Conservation Strategy, aiming to halt fowl extinctions by 2032 and general bird declines by 2050.

A Decade Of Rainbows—Rainbow Lorikeet Tops The 10th Annual Aussie Bird Count  will be carefully vetted by BirdLife Australia’s avian experts with a complete data release for the Aussie Bird Count scheduled for December this year.
